OMA has integrated digital design and technology into our design process from the inception of client’s briefs. Using ISO 19650 as our guide we have defined a process which is both flexible enough to enable rapid design testing and structured enough to facilitate OMA leading the design phase digital coordination. The challenge has been to do so across all international offices, educating global clients and leading consultants in collaborative and transparent cloud based design teams. In educating clients the digital design process has facilitated a coordinated design earlier in the design phase; where complex projects are delivered with cost certainty and data continuity as the project transitions from design to construction. In doing so, we have established a basis for clients to continue further into the project-cycle, operating with a digital twin. OMA believes a rigorous design logic integrating BIM can define rigorous digital construction deliverable for the architect. In doing so, we can address the growing socioeconomic and environmental issues faced by our industry. As practical examples for our way of working, we will share some insights of projects like the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam and the KaDeWe in Vienna.
